Vikings DE Danielle Hunter named NFC Defensive Player of the Week

Hunter finished with three sacks against the Lions in Week 14.

After finishing with three sacks on Sunday against the Detroit Lions, Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter became the youngest player in NFL history to hit the 50 sack mark.

He was also named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts.

Hunter now has 12.5 sacks on the season, just two back from his career-high of 14.5 last season. In his career, Hunter (only 25) has 52.5 sacks.

It’s the second such award for Hunter during his career and it’s the 22nd time a player has won an NFC Player of the Week award under head coach Mike Zimmer.

This season, we’ve seen safety Anthony Harris win in Week 1, kicker Dan in Week 5 and 8, and Dalvin Cook in Week 10.

Hunter will have an opportunity to add to his sack totals on Sunday against Philip Rivers and the Chargers.

Rivers has been sacked just 27 times this season, per Pro Football Outsiders.
