Vikings DC Ed Donatell: “It’s our time to shine”

Despite regular season struggles, the defense is ready for the postseason

Going into the playoffs, the Minnesota Vikings defense limped to the finish line. They had a good performance against a paltry, depleted Chicago Bears team but overall, they didn’t rank highly.

The Vikings defense tied for 28th in points allowed (25.12 PPG) and 31st in yards allowed (388.7 YPG) but their success in the red zone gives some reason for hope.

The Vikings allowed the eighth-least trips to the red zone with 49 trips (2.88 per game) and allowed only 28 touchdowns for a 57.1% touchdown rate that ranks 21st in the NFL.

Even with the struggles on defense, there is some hope for the playoffs and defensive coordinator Ed Donatell believes it’s the defense’s time to shine.

“”It’s our time to shine as a defense now that we’re hitting the playoffs. We intend to have success this year.”

The confidence that Donatell has in his unit is great to see and, as the stats show, there is hope for success this postseason.
