Vikings add high upside cornerback in Pro Football Network mock draft

Getting a cornerback with elite traits carries with it some risks, but the reward would be exponential

As the Minnesota Vikings approach the NFL draft, there are a couple of ways they can approach things. They can prioritize a player who has the highest upside or rather take one that is safer that will contribute right away. There isn’t necessarily a way that is better than the other, but you want the best possible outcome

Pro Football Network’s Arif Hasan believes that the high upside route is the best one and has them doing so by taking Georgia cornerback Kelee Ringo.

“The Minnesota Vikings double up on physical Georgia defensive backs in the first round, following up their Lewis Cine pick last year with Kelee Ringo, who might be the best run defending cornerback in this year’s draft among a class full of them.

He’s incredible at bringing down ball carriers and carries high-level coverage capability against pass catchers. That sounds like somebody who could thrive in Brian Flores’ scheme.”

Ringo has some real concerns, but the size and athletic traits he possesses are in the elite range. If you can get him to play more consistent from a technical perspective, you could have yourself a top cornerback.
