Vikings activate their two best defensive backs off the COVID-19/Reserve list

Guess who’s back? Back again?

Minnesota’s secondary just got a let better.

The Vikings activated S Harrison Smith and CB Patrick Peterson off the COVID-19/Reserve list, the team announced Wednesday. For the Vikings, that’s a huge boost to its defense, especially with the matchup in Week 11.

Minnesota is at home against Green Bay this week. The Packers lead the division with an 8-2 record. The Vikings moved to 4-5 last week after the team pulled off an upset in Week 10.

S Camryn Bynum played well in Smith’s absence. Bynum may have earned reps in the defensive back rotation — even with Smith healthy. However, Smith roaming back deep will help minimize the mistakes of other defensive backs.

Peterson will also be a help. Before he got placed on IR, Peterson was the team’s best cornerback. Cornerbacks Cameron Dantzler and Bashaud Breeland played all right with Peterson out. That said, Peterson should slot right into a starting cornerback position outwide.
