Video shows what was said during Myles Straw’s close-up confrontation with Yankees fans

Yikes.

The Cleveland Guardians outfielders were furious on Saturday after one of the uglier scenes in baseball played out at Yankee Stadium.

Despite the Yankees winning the game on a pinch-hit, walk-off single from Gleyber Torres, Yankees fans resorted to throwing trash at Guardians outfielders Myles Straw and Oscar Mercado.

The entire incident was sparked an at-bat earlier when Guardians rookie outfielder Steven Kwan was shaken up after colliding into the left-field wall. As Kwan was being attended to trainers, Guardians center fielder Straw took exception with a heckling fan in the stands and actually climbed the fencing to confront the fan face to face.

We now know what was said. (Warning: NSFW language)

The fan obviously didn’t hit Straw or else a scene reminiscent of the “Malice in the Palace” could have played out. Still, there’s never an excuse to throw trash at players and taunting an injured player is just an awful look all the way around.

After the game, Straw said his emotions got the best of him during the confrontation, but he did add that the Yankees had the “worst fanbase on the planet.”

So, there’s that.

In the day following the incident, Straw was heavily booed as he went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts. The Yankees won, 10-2, to sweep the Guardians.
