Video: Center Alec Lindstrom enjoys details of zone blocking scheme

If the Browns are looking for a center in the draft, Alec Lindstrom could be an option. He talks about the zone scheme and his fit within it in this combine video:

One of the biggest parts of the NFL combine is the chance for the media to ask prospects questions in advance of the NFL draft. Some of those questions can border on the silly while others can get very personal with the player.

Many players seem to enjoy the interactions and most seem well prepared to engage with the media. The prospects get a chance to shine and tell their stories that will be told throughout the ramp-up to the draft and fans of their new team will grab hold once they join.

With the proliferation of zone blocking schemes throughout the NFL, through the “Shanahan tree” primarily, the Cleveland Browns are just one of many teams running a version of the scheme. Interviewing center prospect Alec Lindstrom provided an opportunity to talk about his fit within that scheme:

Lindstrom’s answer shows a good understanding of the nuance of the scheme as well as how he can use it to his advantage.

With J.C. Tretter possibly on the chopping block, the Browns could be interested in a player like Lindstrom whose brother, Chris, was a first-round pick of Atlanta last year. He is projected to a day-three pick at this point but could move up the boards with all the zone scheme systems around the league.
