When the San Antonio Spurs took Victor Wembanyama with the first pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, they added a guy fully capable of being their franchise centerpiece. So far this year, Wembanyama has lived up to the hype. He’s been incredible to watch, especially on the defensive end, as he currently leads the league in blocks.
But as Wembanyama continues to develop into the guy ready to lead the Spurs organization into the future, he needs as much guidance as possible. Luckily for the Spurs, they have the perfect coach for the job in Gregg Popovich – someone with plenty of experience developing Hall-of-Fame big men.

“Very much,” Wembanyama said when asked how much he cherishes it.
He loves learning from Popovich.
“It’s pretty precious and one of the reasons that make this place the best place,” Wembanyama said. “Also, I think I’ve added something out of every single one of these. Whenever I talk with the coach, I add something every time.”
With Wembanyama leading the way and Popovich guiding him, the Spurs are in a great spot moving forward.
