VFL Christin Stewart productive in Tigers’ exhibition loss.

CINCINNATI — Former University of Tennessee baseball player Christin Stewart went 1-for-3 and scored a run for Detroit Tigers in their 9-7 exhibition loss to Cincinnati.

The game was played Tuesday at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.

Stewart, a left fielder for the Tigers, played for the Volunteers for three seasons. At Tennessee, he hit .319.

He was taken by Detroit in the first round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft as the 34th overall pick.

As a junior for the Diamond Vols in 2015, Stewart batted .311 with 15 home runs and drove in 47 runs, while appearing in 50 games.

He made his Major League debut for the Tigers on Sept. 9, 2018. The former Vol has a lifetime batting average of .239. He has 12 career home runs and has driven in 50 runs during parts of two seasons in Detroit.
