While many were home celebrating Christmas on Friday, New Orleans Saints’ running back and VFL Alvin Kamara was competing on the gridiron.
He also found a place in the NFL Record and Fact Book by helping his team clinch the NFC South championship.
Kamara scored six rushing touchdowns to help lift New Orleans past the Minnesota Vikings, 52-33, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
His six rushing scores ties a 1929 record set by the Chicago Cardinals’ Ernie Nevers. The mark was the longest standing record in league history.
Kamara joins Nevers, Dub Jones and Gayle Sayers to score six touchdowns of any kind in an NFL game.
Kamara also rushed for a career-high 155 yards and had three receptions for 17 yards for the Saints, who improved to 11-4 on the season.
He was a third-round draft pick by the Saints in 2017 and was later named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. The former Vol was on the PFWA All-Rookie Team and is a four-time Pro Bowl selection.
He played at UT from 2015-16 after beginning his collegiate career at Alabama.
