Following a dominant 27-point victory on Sunday against the Houston Rockets, the Boston Celtics came into tonight’s game looking to build on that impressive performance at home against the league’s best record, the Utah Jazz. Despite a late game run to steal the game, the Celtics fell short to the Jazz, 117-109.
A clutch 3-pointer from Donovan Mitchell and countless clutch free throws from the Jazz were too much for the Celtics down the stretch. Tonight’s game had a serious playoff feel to it with 13 lead changes throughout the night. The Celtics jumped out to a quick 11-point lead in the first quarter, but the Jazz swiftly cut into the deficit and ultimately took the lead into halftime, sparked by Jordan Clarkson and Joe Ingles off the bench.
The Utah bench combined for 45 points, led by Clarkson with 20 points on 5-of-10 from downtown. Ingles added 14 points and hit 4-of-8 tries from deep.

Celtics All-Star’s Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum certainly fit the role, though it wasn’t enough to get the victory. Tatum led the way with 29 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Brown finished with 28 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals.
In the absence of Tristan Thompson, who is out due to league’s healthy and safety protocols, Daniel Theis and Robert Williams both filled the stat sheet. Theis finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists on the night. Like on Sunday, Robert Williams shined off the bench, scoring 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
The Celtics will look to get back into the wins column in a quick turnaround tomorrow night against the Cleveland Cavaliers at 7 p.m.
