Off to the NFL Draft

Utah State junior linebacker David Woodward is giving up his final year of eligibility and is declaring for the NFL Draft.

“I want to thank my family, teammates, coaches and friends who have helped me during my football career,” said Woodward. “After spending four great years at Utah State University it is time for me to move on and chase my dream of playing professional football. Therefore, I will forgo my senior season and declare for the 2020 NFL Draft.”

“David Woodward is a tremendous football player and he gave everything he had to the program and his teammates during his time here,” said USU head coach Gary Anderson. “David will be successful in whatever he chooses to do in life. Go Aggies!”

Woodward’s 2019 season was cut short after seven games due to a knee injury and played only seven games. Despite appearing in just over half of the games he put up numbers good enough to earn first-team All-Mountain West, plus he led the team with 93 tackles to go along with a pair of sacks and five tackles for a loss.

Woodward broke out in his sophomore where he was one of the best linebackers in the country in 2018, per Pro Football Focus.

For his career in Logan, Woodward earned a team-best 256 tackles, which includes eight sacks and an impressive 20.5 tackles for loss. He also forced six fumbles, and he posted 15 double-digit tackle games in his career.

He follows in the footsteps of his teammate quarterback Jordan Love who also is entering the draft and will not be back in 2020.
