UT targets named all-state by TSWA

Three UT recruiting targets named all-state by TSWA.

Knoxville Catholic High School has emerged as a boys basketball powerhouse in recent years.

The Fighting Irish, who reached the TSSAA Division II-AA semifinals in 2021 after winning the state championship in 2020, have a roster filled with NCAA Division I commitments and prospects.

KCHS players have offers from the University of Tennessee and head coach Rick Barnes. Those players include juniors B.J. Edwards and Handje Tamba, along with sophomore Blue Cain.

All three were honored by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association, which recently named them to its All-State Team.

Edwards has had a decorated three-year career with the Fighting Irish. He was named Mr. Basketball in 2021, and is a three-time finalist for the award.

He was also the Division II-AA State Tournament’s Most Valuable Player in 2020.

He has multiple offers.

Tamba, a 7-foot forward for Knoxville Catholic, has multiple offers also.

Cain, a guard, has recently received offers from both the Volunteers and Syracuse.
