Lady Vols track and field record best finish in a decade
The Tennessee women’s cross country team took third place at the NCAA South Region Championships Friday morning, marking their best finish since 2009.
Three Lady Vols finished in the top-20 earning all regional honors: Sydney Seymour, Megan Murray and Katie Thronson. Head coach Beth Alford-Sullivan had the following to say about her team.
“Our women were brilliant today, just as they’ve been all season. We knew going into it that we wanted to secure the third-place finish, we got it and now we’re under consideration for an at-large bid. As the results pour in today from across the country, we’ll figure out how that happens.”
Although the Volunteers just missed an automatic bid to next week’s national championships, their third-place finish is a step ahead of their No. 4 ranking at the meet, and the results were encouraging overall. The Lady Vols still remain under consideration for an at-large entry into the tournament.
