The U.S. women’s national team has named a whopping 59 players to its preliminary roster for next month’s CONCACAF W Championship.
Notably, USWNT regulars Abby Dahlkemper (broken ribs) and Sam Mewis (knee) are not on the list, as their injuries will apparently sideline them for at least another few weeks. Longer-term injuries have also kept Tierna Davidson, Catarina Macario, and Lynn Williams from being available for the squad, while Crystal Dunn misses out after having recently given birth.
Vlatko Andonovski’s list includes five current NCAA players (Croix Bethune, Michelle Cooper, Emily Madril, Emily Mason, and Jenna Nighswonger), one USYNT star (Alyssa Thompson), and longtime USWNT winger Tobin Heath, who is currently without a club.
Lindsey Horan, who just won the UEFA Champions League, is the only player based abroad. Mia Fishel, a USYNT regular who has starred for Tigres Femenil in her first professional season, did not make the squad.
The USWNT will begin play in the CONCACAF W Championship, which will serve as qualifying for both the 2023 World Cup and 2024 Olympics, against Haiti on July 4.
Prior to the start of the tournament, Andonovski will have to cut his roster down to 23 players.
