For the first time in what seems like forever, both USC Trojans basketball teams have a chance to make the NCAA Tournament in the same season. That hasn’t happened at USC since 1997. The women’s team has exceeded expectations this season, and that is a huge credit to coach Lindsay Gottlieb.
The Trojans need to continue to win games, and they host the Washington Huskies on Thursday night at the Galen Center.
The Trojans have lost two in a row, to Stanford and California. Both of those losses came on the road and both were by just three points, so it’s clear the Trojans have fought hard recently as they try for their 20th win of the year.
USC topped Washington on the road on January 22 in overtime, so the Women of Troy have to feel good about their chances in this game.
In the Trojans’ loss to the Cal Golden Bears this past Sunday, Kadi Sissoko exploded for 30 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Sissoko has led the Trojans lately, and she will need to play well again in order for USC to avoid losing a third straight game.
If USC wins, that will be win No. 20 on the year in what has been a sensational turnaround engineered by Gottlieb and assistant coach Beth Burns.
Bracketologists have USC projected as a No. 8 seed for the NCAA Tournament. With two regular-season games left and then the Pac-12 Tournament, USC doesn’t have many chances left to stumble and play its way out of the field. If USC can simply nail down one more win, the Trojans will be an NCAA Tournament lock … and we will be sure to let you know.
