USC target and 2024 edge rusher gets commitment from Michigan

#USC’s attempt to pass Michigan in the recruiting rankings just took a hit (but the story is far from over).

The USC Trojans could not add to their defensive line in the 2024 cycle. The Michigan Wolverines have landed four-star defensive lineman Jacob Smith from Chesire Academy in Connecticut.

The Wolverines have seen a ton of success on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class, already more than doubling the number of top-300 commitments in the 2023 class. Michigan signed just six recruits in the ESPN 300 in the 2023 cycle and finished No. 17 overall.

Jacob and his twin brother Jerod, who is a three-star defensive lineman, will be Wolverines. The Smith brothers have a series of high-profile offers, despite being in a generally underrecruited and scouted region of the country. Jacob Smith had offers from Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, USC, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, and more.

Rated the No. 210 player in the 2024 class regardless of position, according to the 247Sports composite, Smith is also the 18th-best edge rusher and No. 3 player in the state of Connecticut. He’s listed at 6-foot-4.5 and 230 pounds.
