USC now has No. 3 recruiting class in the Big Ten behind Ohio State and Michigan

The Braylon Conley commit Friday evening pushed #USC past Penn State in the 2024 cycle. Can the Trojans now pass Michigan? That’s a key question.

The Braylon Conley commitment on Friday evening enabled USC to rise to No. 6 in the national 2024 football recruiting rankings. The Conley commit also boosted USC within the confines of the Big Ten Conference.

As we wrote Friday night:

“The recruiting services give Conley a mixture of three- and four-star ratings, but the rating is enough to push USC past Penn State for No. 6 in the 2024 recruiting rankings. This means USC is now third in the Big Ten, ahead of PSU but still behind Michigan and Ohio State.”

The next really big question is if USC can pass Michigan, currently third in the nation and second in the Big Ten.

You will note that Michigan has 23 commitments for the 2024 cycle, USC only 16. There’s a lot more room for USC to grow in the 2024 cycle. There are more spots available for the Trojans, while Michigan is closer to maxing out. If we assume that USC — from July 1 through the end of the 2024 recruiting cycle — will pick up a net of five more commits than Michigan will, could the Trojans pass Michigan under that hypothetical?

It will at least be close. USC might not pass Florida in the top five because the Gators, like USC, are still well under 20 commits for the cycle and have room to grow, but Michigan might be at or near its limit, giving USC a chance to gain ground.
