The USC Trojans men’s basketball team has moved to the good side of the latest bracketology conversation with two wins a week ago.
However, they can’t stop there. They face the Colorado Buffaloes in Boulder on Thursday night. If the Trojans want to remain in the thick of the tournament conversation — not the periphery, on the bad side of the bubble — they need to get this win against Colorado.
The last time the Trojans faced the Buffs, they won a close game, 68-61, at the Galen Center. Drew Peterson led the way in that game with 15 points on 6-12 shooting. Boogie Ellis added 14 on 6-13 shooting. That was also the debut for Vince Iwuchukwu.
Joshua Morgan scored 12 in that contest.
In the present moment, Boogie Ellis is feeling great after a career-best performance of 33 points against Stanford a few days ago.
Both Joshua Morgan and Reese Dixon-Waters played in the game against Stanford, so Andy Enfield’s team is getting healthy at the perfect time with the Pac-12 Tournament just a couple of weeks away.
In the Trojans’ win over Colorado back in January, Lawson Lovering shined for the Buffs with 13 points and 14 rebounds, and USC had no answer for the big man. Iwuchukwu played just a handful of minutes. In this game, he should be able to play at least 20 if needed. That could be crucial for the Trojans.
Colorado is 15-13 this season and is just trying to play spoiler at this point, so the Trojans need to be able to get a tough win on the road on Thursday.
