USC defense needs to make sure Oregon’s Will Richardson doesn’t thrive

Will Richardson is an enigma … and USC can’t let him bust loose for a big game on Thursday.

We asked Ducks Wire analyst Donald Smalley, point-blank, about the struggles of Oregon guard Will Richardson. We wanted to know more about Richardson before USC takes on the Ducks this Thursday night in Eugene, with Oregon in bubble trouble and USC still needing several more wins to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

One can be confident in saying that if Richardson plays a great game, USC is in trouble. Conversely, if USC puts the clamps on him, the Trojans have to like their chances on Thursday.

Trojans Wire:

“Why has Will Richardson not been able to become an elite player?”

Donald Smalley, Ducks Wire:

“Richardson isn’t a true point guard and he’s a square being forced into a round hole. I think it’s taken a toll on him mentally and it’s affected his play. Turnovers has been a huge issue with him. He doesn’t have floor vision like a PG should. He has his moments, but not enough for this team to be successful.”
