Oklahoma held firm in the College Football Playoff rankings Tuesday night remaining at No. 11 after having their game with West Virginia be postponed back a couple of weeks to Dec. 12th.
The Sooners control their own destiny to winning a sixth consecutive Big 12 title, with just games against Baylor and the rescheduled matchup with the Mountaineers standing in their way of getting a rematch with Iowa State for the conference championship.
USA TODAY Sports’ bowl projections currently have Oklahoma slotted to face Georgia in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl in a rematch of the sensational Rose Bowl/College Football Playoff Semifinal game the two programs played three seasons ago.
That game has lingered over the Sooner fans’ heads ever since due to it being looked at as easily the team’s best chance at getting to the national title game in recent years and losing in such an incredibly competitive game.
The Bulldogs currently sit at 6-2 and No. 8 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. Many have questioned their placement as the highest-ranked two-loss team in the country due to an absence of overly impressive wins and futile performances against both Alabama and Florida.
Amazingly, that 2018 Rose Bowl collision is the only time the two historic programs have ever met. Could we be seeing a second installment this season?
