US LBM Coaches Poll reveals massive shakeup near the top, but did Texas move up?

The Texas blowout of Michigan didn’t change the Longhorns ranking in the US LBM Coaches Poll, but there were still big changes in the poll.

Week 2 of the college football season saw the most hyped non-conference game of the year turn into a blow out, one of the biggest upsets in years and a few close shaves by ranked teams.

It makes sense then that there would be a major shakeup in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish took the biggest plunge. The Irish were ranked No. 7 and were thought to be a shoe in for the college football playoff. But after getting stunned at home by Northern Illinois, Notre Dame plummeted to No. 19 and a playoff berth is less than a certainty.

The Oregon Ducks, the Oklahoma Sooners, the Penn State Nittany Lions and even, to some degree, the Alabama Crimson Tide struggled against lesser opponents. But all four schools held firm in the new US LBM Coaches Poll.

The Texas Longhorns, who dismantled the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday 31-12, stood pat at No. 3. In fact, the entire top six stayed the same as the Week 1 ranking. The Wolverines dropped seven spots to No. 16.
