Cody Rhodes might be getting a second chance to finish his story at WrestleMania 40 next month, but it might actually be harder to win the second time around against Roman Reigns than the first.

Let’s back up a step. The big twist to Rhodes’ tale this year is that he and Seth Rollins will be taking on Reigns and The Rock on Night 1 in Philadelphia. The stakes for this tag team match are real: If Cody and Seth win, his Night 2 match against Reigns will have no Bloodline interference. But if Rock and Roman take the victory, it will be Bloodline Rules during the Night 2 main event, meaning anything goes.

Think this was set up to make Cody’s path even more difficult? Oddsmakers agree with you. BetOnline believes Rhodes and Rollins are decent underdogs to win the tag team match, with Reigns and The Rock as -700 favorites. That’s actually up from -350 when the lines were first posted, meaning there’s a lot of confidence that things will get harder for Rhodes in Philly.

On the plus side, the same oddsmakers believe Cody is a good bet to finally finish the story even despite that setback, as he’s currently a -400 favorite to defeat Reigns — but even that’s down from -700 at one point, reflecting the idea that people aren’t 100% sure Roman might not wriggle out of Philadelphia with his title again.

As always, a disclaimer: Just because you can wager legally on pro wrestling matches in some locales (none in the U.S.) doesn’t mean you necessarily should. Consider that someone knows the outcomes of these matches before they happen, then add that to the unpredictability around WrestleMania in particular and weigh those factors carefully.

We enjoy using the odds as a measuring stick for expectations around big events like Mania, and this year that holds true as much as ever. We’ll update these as they change before April 6-7, but here’s what the betting lines look like right now.
