Updated Saints practice squad after signing Latavius Murray, Tre Swilling

Here’s the updated Saints practice squad after signing veteran running back Latavius Murray and rookie cornerback Tre Swilling:

Some changes are inevitable for the New Orleans Saints practice squad, and there’s a good chance the unit looks different at the end of the season compared to its current state. The Saints frequently sign new players to the practice squad and let others go to avoid complacency and help them prepare for future opponents, effectively churning the bottom of their depth chart to make sure they’ve got the best 16 players in position as possible.

And sometimes players are released in procedural moves, only to later re-sign with the team. Former Saints backup quarterback J.T. Barrett did this dozens of times in his playing career. Players recently released from the practice squad include offensive linemen Nick Martin (who has not been removed from the team’s online roster since being released on Sept. 10) and Tanner Owen, as well as wide receiver Dai’Jean Dixon. We’ll keep an eye out for their return in the days and weeks ahead.

So the Saints practice squad now includes multiple players at cornerback (3), defensive line (3), tight end (2), offensive line (2), wide receiver (2), and linebacker (2), as well as a running back and quarterback. Here’s the full list:
