Reports are continuing to surface regarding Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian’s potential new staff.
As we’re all aware, assistant coaches are vital to a programs overall success. Hiring top position coaches and allowing them to do what they do best is what seemingly hindered the coaching careers of Charlie Strong and Tom Herman in Austin.
In regards to Herman’s previous staff, running backs coach Stan Drayton is the only confirmed assistant that is expected to return under Sarkisian.
According to Zach Barnett of FootballScoop.com, Sarkisian is beginning to piece together his offensive staff.

Although Sarkisian is expected to call plays on game day, it appears he will hire AJ Milwee as one of his primary assistants on the offensive side of the ball as he’s expected to become the quarterbacks coach at Texas.
Milwee was formally the offensive coordinator at Akron and has spent the previous two years as an analyst at Alabama. He was named the Arkansas State offensive coordinator last week, but Sarkisian may have jumped in just in time.
With Drayton remaining the running backs coach and Milwee filling in as the quarterbacks coach, the only remaining question mark on the offensive side is who will become the tight ends coach.
Kyle Flood is expected to become the offensive coordinator/offensive line coach, while Holmon Wiggins is expected to coach the young group of wide receivers. Wiggins has spent the last two years under Sarkisian at Alabama, while Flood is the current offensive line coach for the Crimson Tide.
Now that Will Muschamp turned down the defensive coordinator position at Texas, it’s possible that Chris Ash could still return in some capacity. Keep an eye on current Arkansas defensive coordinator Barry Odom as a potential candidate for the same role in Austin.
On Monday, it was reported by FootballScoop.com that Sarkisian has been in contact with Houston associate head coach/co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach Doug Belk to join his defensive staff at Texas.
Stay tuned.
