UNLV transfer quarterback flips commitment from Georgia to USC

Jayden Maiava, who threw for 3,085 yards and 17 touchdowns as a freshman last year, made the switch just one day after he committed to UGA.

Former UNLV quarterback Jayden Maiava will play for the USC Trojans next year, as first reported on Tuesday night by On3 and ESPN.

The decision came just one day after Maiava committed to transfer to Georgia to play for head coach Kirby Smart.

The redshirt freshman was named to the All-Mountain West Second-Team and awarded the conference’s Freshman of the Year after he threw for 3,085 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He didn’t take over predominant starting duties until Week 3, and all but one of his touchdown passes came in the Rebels’ final 10 games. He also added 277 yards and three additional touchdowns with his legs.

Maiava played his best against New Mexico when he threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns on just 18 attempts with no interceptions. He also averaged 10 yards per attempt against Nevada and Air Force, and he averaged 8.7 yards per attempt on the season.

The former Rebels quarterback will compete with bowl star Miller Moss for the starting job after Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams departed for the NFL Draft.
