Underdog Corner: 3 best NFL picks and predictions for Week 18

Assessing the NFL betting odds and lines for Week 18, with three predictions and picks for the best underdog bets to make.

We cashed a week ago with the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers winning outright to finish with a second straight 2-1 showing here in Underdog Corner.
That puts us at 33-18 (.647) against the spread for the season with 28 of those 33 underdog covers winning outright. The cherry on top would be going out with a winning week in the first-ever Week 18.

Miami Dolphins +6.5 (-112) vs. New England Patriots

The 10-6 Pats can still win the AFC East and earn a playoff home game, but it would take an upset win by the Jets in Buffalo.

In short, a next-to-nil chance.

The Dolphins, meanwhile, had their seven-game win streak and late-season playoff push derailed last Sunday with a 34-3 loss in the chilly Tennessee rain.

However, look for Tua Tagovailoa and Miami to finish strong against the team they vanquished in Week 1 and have beaten in six of the last eight meetings in South Beach. Take the DOLPHINS (+6.5) and the points.

New York Jets +16.5 (-110) at Buffalo Bills

Speaking of the Bills and Jets, we also like the ‘dog in Week 18’s other AFC East tilt.

As aforementioned, the 4-12 Jets have little chance to win but they’re certainly game enough to cover a 16.5-point spread – especially when the Bills pack things in late after the outcome and the AFC East title have long been decided.

Give us the JETS (+16.5) as one of the biggest underdogs of the season.

San Francisco 49ers +4.5 (-110) at Los Angeles Rams

This is one of the biggest games of Week 18 as the Rams are aiming to win the NFC West while the Niners are fighting for the NFC’s final wild-card berth.

The 12-4 Rams are the deserved home favorite here, but 9-7 San Francisco has won five straight and nine of the last 12 head-to-head meetings, including a 31-10 home romp in Week 10.

And despite L.A.’s five-game win streak, QB Matthew Stafford hasn’t exactly been eliciting confidence of late with a trio of turnovers in each of his last two outings.

Meanwhile, starting QB Jimmy Garoppolo should be back so we’ll take the 49ERS (+4.5) and the points in what figures to be a tight division tussle.
