North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye is one of the best players in college football going into the 2023 season, leading the Tar Heels offense as the signal caller. And now he’s earning some preseason recognition.
On Monday, Maye was named to the preseason Maxwell Award watch list, a year after being a semi-finalist for the award during the 2022 season. The 85-player list for the preseason was released by the Maxwell Football Club.
Maye is coming off an impressive 2022 campaign in which he threw for 3,846 yards and 35 touchdowns and also added 629 rushing yards and six touchdowns.

The award has been given out every year since 1937 to the most outstanding player in college football. It’s named in honor of Robert “Tiny” Maxwell who was a former standout at the Swarthmore College and a renowned sports writer and football official.
Maye is not only considered one of the top quarterbacks in college football but best players in the game as well and is likely to be a top 5 pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
