UNC one of 40 schools to host College GameDay in both basketball and football

Having College GameDay come to your campus is pretty significant. The crew’s covered both football and basketball for UNC games.

Hosting College GameDay is an all-day event.

Students spend the entire night before camping out for their perfect spot on the set. People create some of the craziest signs ever seen on sports TV. Broadcasters set up the morning of, then BOOM – College GameDay is here.

When you are selected to host College GameDay, it typically means your team is doing well. There’s some instances in where the famous college sports show heads to campus for a rivalry matchup, but part of the show’s draw is previewing a matchup most of the sports world will be watching.

Not only has UNC hosted College Gameday, they’ve hosted it in BOTH football and men’s basketball. It’s just one of 40 schools to do so.

The Tar Heels are a yearly part of College GameDay during basketball season, as they play archrival Duke, twice a year, in the Tobacco Road Showdown. UNC’s football squad was already part of College GameDay once this year – the season-opener against South Carolina at Bank of America Stadium – and could be again if it keeps winning.

Props to the ACC as a whole – if you count Notre Dame for football, a quarter of the teams on this list are ACC squads.
