UNC has a rich history as a No. 1 seed in NCAA Tournament

The UNC basketball program has won the NCAA Tournament as a No. 1 seed five times, the most in history.

The North Carolina Tar Heels will tip off their 2024 NCAA Tournament run on Thursday, facing off against Wagner in Charlotte. UNC earned a record 18th No. 1 seed this year, landing the top seed in the West Region.

North Carolina has won the national championship a total of six times and when they do win it all, it’s usually as a No. 1 seed. The Tar Heels have won the tournament a total of five times as a No. 1 seed, the most in NCAA Tournament history.

That might be a good sign for the 2024 NCAA Tournament as UNC is once again a top seed in this tournament:

The Tar Heels do have a tough path featuring Arizona, Baylor, Arizona, and Saint Mary’s in their region. They were also the fourth-ranked No. 1 seed with UConn, Houston and Purdue all ahead of them.

Let’s hope UNC can add another title to their resume as a No. 1 seed.
