The 2024 recruiting class for the UNC basketball program is already the top class in the country. And, it could be getting better, thanks to the recruiting efforts of one five-star commit.
Current UNC commit [autotag]Ian Jackson[/autotag] has been in the news for the past few weeks … thanks to the rumors involving Rick Pitino and a potential flip from North Carolina to St. John’s. After Jackson reaffirmed his commitment to UNC for a third time, he also had other things to say.
Jackson made it known he is targeting one player to join him and the rest of the Tar Heels’ class in Chapel Hill: five-star point guard [autotag]Boogie Fland[/autotag]. Fland took an official visit to North Carolina, his only official visit to this point.
After the commitment of five-star guard Elliot Cadeau, the recruiting process seemed a bit shaky between UNC and Fland, despite the Tar Heels being given the ‘leader’ designation in the recruitment process.
Now, UNC seems to be back on the board after the news of Cadeau’s potential reclassification.
“I’m trying, I’m trying, I’m talking to him,” Jackson told ZagsBlog.com of Fland. “Come win a national championship. We both (are) from New York, we get a chance to play each other in high school (in the New York Catholic League), so let’s try to do it in college … I’m swaying him a little bit,”
The two players are both from New York and played together on the U17 Team USA FIBA World Cup team last summer.
Kentucky, St. John’s and Michigan are some of the new programs pushing for Fland at the moment.
North Carolina has a four-man class in 2024 of Jackson, Cadeau and four-star prospects James Brown and Drake Powell.
