UNC basketball will host Rutgers in a secret scrimmage game

Rutgers will head to Chapel Hill for a secret scrimmage against the UNC basketball program.

Hubert Davis and North Carolina will hit the court for an inter-squad scrimmage on Friday night during the “Live Action” event to unofficially tip off the 2022-23 season. While fans will get to see the team compete against each other, the Tar Heels will get their first taste of competition soon enough.

The Tar Heels are set to host Rutgers in a ‘secret’ scrimmage game on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Smith Center, Inside Carolina is reporting. The games are closed off to the public and media and allows teams to play in a game ahead of the season.

Each program is allowed one game like this per year.

The secret scrimmages have continued to rise in popularity over the years as we’ve seen UNC take on programs like Villanova, Florida, and Memphis in previous years. It’s a way for teams to see how they stack up against others before the real action starts.

The game is five on five but is broken down into different situations that teams could see throughout the year. The scoring is also different and not standard.

UNC will host its first exhibition game of the year on Friday, October 28th when Johnson C. Smith comes to town.
