UNC basketball targeting Matthew Cleveland in transfer portal

The UNC basketball program is pursuing former Florida State wing Matthew Cleveland per a report.

Hubert Davis and the North Carolina basketball staff have a new target in the transfer portal.

As UNC awaits decisions from Nick Timberlake and Harrison Ingram, they have reached out to other players in the portal, including a pair of ACC talents.  The Tar Heels hosted former Notre Dame guard Cormac Ryan on Tuesday and now, they have interest in a Florida State transfer.

Per Inside Carolina, the Tar Heels are targeting Florida State wing Matthew Cleveland in the portal, just a week after he made the decision to transfer out.

Cleveland committed to Florida State as a five-star prospect as part of the 2021 class. He’s a Georgia native that had 29 offers in his recruitment before he picked the Seminoles.

As a sophomore, Cleveland averaged 13.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game for the Seminoles. He shot 44.5 percent from the field including 35 percent from the three-point line.

Cleveland would fill a need for a wing for the Tar Heels, a spot they must find a solution to and are trying. In addition to Cleveland, UNC is pursuing both Timberlake and Ingram as well.
