Tyrese Maxey gives update on quad injury after Sixers were able to practice

Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey gave an update on his quad injury as the team was able to practice.

The Philadelphia 76ers have had a jam-packed schedule to begin the 2021-22 season with a lot of games packed together. There have been a lot of back-to-backs, there have been times where they have only had a day off in-between games, and it has not allowed the team to practice much.

With two days off before their matchup with the New Orleans Pelicans at home on Sunday, the Sixers took advantage of their time off by being able to get a practice in. After a loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday, they were able to get that time in.

They played that game on Thursday without Tyrese Maxey who was ruled out due to a left quad contusion. With the team back to work on Saturday, the second-year guard was able to get some time in on the floor in limited action.

“We’re gonna re-evaluate tomorrow,” said Maxey. “We went through some stuff today and we’ll see tomorrow.”

Maxey said he originally suffered the injury on Wednesday in the team’s loss to the Miami Heat at home.

“I think I got kneed late in the Miami game,” he continued. “I went over to contest the layup, I think it was Kyle Lowry, and he kinda kneed me in my quad like right there in by my knee and the bone area.”

In terms of what he was able to do out on the floor at practice, coach Doc Rivers admitted he wasn’t able to do much. However, the fact that he was with the team is a good sign.

“He didn’t do much,” said Rivers. “He was running a little bit, he did some shooting, he did some drill work before practice. We just didn’t want him on the floor with other people running into each other.”
