Projected first-round pick Tyrell Terry has stayed busy in the gym since declaring for the NBA draft and has reportedly undergone a massive change to his body in recent months as a result.
The Stanford guard weighed in at 170 pounds last week during the NBA draft combine testing and also grew an inch to 6-foot-3 in shoes, according to Jeremy Woo of Sports Illustrated. Terry finished last season in college at 6-foot-2, weighing 155 pounds.
Terry has had a productive pre-draft process, both on the court and off of it. He has interviewed very well with teams and has demonstrated a high-level IQ. He even “broke a record” for his testing during meetings administered by multiple teams as he has helped his draft stock immensely.
The 20-year-old averaged 14.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.4 steals in 31 games last season at Stanford. He converted on 44.1% of his shots from the field and 40.8% from 3-point range, including an incredible 50.8% on catch-and-shoot 3-pointers.
Terry is most commonly projected to be selected 23rd by mock drafts and he told SI that he has had roughly 40 separate meetings with NBA teams. He has reportedly met twice with the Phoenix Suns and could be on their radar given his shooting, a trait the organization is looking for.
Based on the physicality the NBA demands, Terry has seemingly done a good job of preparing his body for the next level. Given his skill set, he projects to fit in with just about every team and it will be worth monitoring where he lands on Nov. 18.
