Tyler Herro will not play in the Rising Stars Game due to injury

The 13th overall pick has not played for the Heat since Feb. 3 after suffering an ankle injury against the 76ers.

The NBA announced on Tuesday that Cleveland Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton will replace injured Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro in the NBA Rising Stars Game, which will be played in Chicago on Friday.

Herro has missed the last four games for the Heat after dealing with a sprained ankle. The rookie has been seen in a walking boot since suffering the injury on Feb. 3 against the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Heat were hopeful that Herro would be able to play at some point during their road trip prior to the All-Star break but the news on Tuesday may indicate the injury is worse than initially thought.

The 26th Rising Stars game will pit 10 first- and second-year NBA players from the United States against 10 first- and second-year NBA players from around the world in the league’s annual showcase.

Sexton is averaging a team-high 19.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game for the Cavaliers. He is the third-leading scorer among second-year players, behind Trae Young and Luka Doncic.

Prior to suffering the injury, Herro had missed just three games this season, two due to a knee injury and one for a sprained ankle. In 46 games played, Herro is averaging 13.1 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Herro has made a rookie-leading 99 3-pointers this season.
