Two writers voted for UNC in top 15 for AP preseason poll

The UNC football program received two votes as a top 15 team in the first Associated Press Top 25 poll of the year.

The North Carolina Tar Heels will open up the 2023 college football season ranked No. 21 in the Associated Press top 25 preseason poll. It was the first time since 2011 that they appeared in the preseason poll after missing out in 2022.

As North Carolina gets set to face off against South Carolina in Week 1 in Charlotte, it’s interesting to see where the Tar Heels stand in preseason polls including the AP. And shortly after that poll was released last Monday, the results from individual voters has been revealed.

For North Carolina, they had two writers vote them as a top 15 team with Kirk Kenney of the San Diego Union-Tribune voting them No. 13 and Tom Murphy of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette voting them at No. 15:

Those are the only two votes UNC got inside the top 15 but they did get a fair share inside the top 20 as well.

If UNC does want to climb into that top 15 eventually and make some noise, getting the season off to a great start with a win over South Carolina is a good first step.
