After 17 years in the NFL, former Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has called it a career. The 39-year old spent all but one season with the Bolts.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to his retirement:
Congrats to Philip on an outstanding career. It was fun to watch my fellow Qb from 2004 draft class compete these past 17 years. Enjoy the next phase. https://t.co/RIYici7ZPN

Philip, what a career! An amazing competitor, winner & family man. It’s been fun to compete against u & watch u do your thing for so many years.
I know countless kids have been inspired by u & will benefit from your coaching & football knowledge in the future. God bless! — Ben. pic.twitter.com/KsZ7L5TjaR

I’ll never forget lining up for a play and Phil pointing to one of our linebackers and telling him he was lined up wrong based off the blitz we were about to run and being 100% correct about it haha.
One of the smartest I’ve ever played against and a hell of a competitor. https://t.co/1AZxyvDafu

#Chargers S Derwin James shows some love to his former QB Philip Rivers and says he has “nothing but love and respect” for number 17. This is after their comeback win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2018. pic.twitter.com/LYBKw7ZhB5

Absolutely loved every single thing about Philip Rivers and his game. The leadership and toughness were at the absolute highest. Best QB I ever saw throwing with defenders right in his face. Love that dude-HOFer!!!!!👏👏👏

My favorite moment of Philip Rivers’ incredible career was a simple QB run.
Thank you, Philip. Shoot, I can’t wait to see which boots and bolo tie you wear in Canton! 😭👀 #BoltUp pic.twitter.com/iuJp26IOqs

Congratulations to Philip Rivers on his retirement. In many ways, and for many years, he was the only reason to watch the Chargers. He defined the Chargers. I want to thank him for everything he did for the team and the city of San Diego. Good luck in retirement, El Capitan.

The NFL will never see another like Philip Rivers. I mean, how many have played WITH A TORN ACL days after tearing it?
His stats say a lot, but far from it all. He played with a pure, joyful enthusiasm that was intoxicating.
I’m just thankful for my front row seat.

A win in Kansas City, a win in Pittsburgh, a win in Baltimore, a win in London, and a win in Seattle made up a damn great year for Philip Rivers.
Maybe the most fun I've had in one season…ever?
And the cherry on top 😏👉 pic.twitter.com/VTFvkkToyK
