The Chargers selected former Notre Dame safety with their sixth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the selection of Gilman:
Skepticism is probably a generous word when taking about the Chargers 2020 draft. Rapid reaction is the front office had a reversal of fortune and had a mediocre draft after absolutely obliterating free agency. The absolute opposite of what they usually do.

A few games in: Alohi Gilman projects as potential Nickel/Dime LB, DB depth & ST contributor. Better near the LOS, reliable tackler with good instincts but he's a low-end athlete with coverage restrictions. Most likely a ST player in 2020.

Alohi Gilman said he hopes to make an "immediate impact" on special teams with the #Chargers. He played on all four core special teams groups at Notre Dame — kick return, kick coverage, punt return, punt coverage.

The way the Chargers defense is built, there's a good chance Alohi Gilman looks like a decent value this late. Not a guy you want in the deep, but he can contribute on the second level and special teams.

Alohi Gilman drafted in the sixth round by the Los Angeles Chargers.
Gilman and Drue Tranquill on the same special teams units? Good luck returning punts and kicks against the Chargers.

#Chargers S Alohi Gilman says his name Alohi means “bright” in his language. He says he feels like he is a well rounded player and said he played special teams at Notre Dame.
