For the second-consecutive year, the Chicago Bears had to wait for the first day of the NFL Draft to wrap up before they had an opportunity to make a selection. But after 42 picks, general manager Ryan Pace got his guy, drafting tight end Cole Kmet in the second round of the 2020 draft.

The former Notre Dame standout and Chicago suburbanite was lauded as the draft’s top tight end, but joins a crowded group led by free agent acquisition Jimmy Graham. Kmet caught 43 passes for 515 yards and six touchdowns for the Fighting Irish in 2019. He was second on the team in all three categories behind wide receiver Chase Claypool.
Experts and fans alike didn’t quite know which direction Pace would go with this pick, originally acquired from the Las Vegas Raiders in the trade that sent outside linebacker Khalil Mack to the Bears. Now that the secret is out and Kmet is headed to Chicago, Bears Twitter had plenty of reactions on the decision.
Love this pick

Bears now have eleventeen tight ends on the roster. Let’s hope this one can catch or block.

Was just thinking the Bears needed (checks notes) their 4 billionth tight end

Not overly thrilled with the Kmet pick but let’s see what they do at 50. Feels like there was better talent on the board. #Bears

The difference? Nagy is there to evaluate this time. I think Kmet will be a stud in this offense
