Fans of the Buffalo Bills certainly know that the team had a shot to draft Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes at the 2017 NFL draft.
Tre’Davious White does, too.
On Sunday, the Mahomes, who scored four times, won his first AFC Championship Game, topping the Titans 35-24. Mahomes will forever be connected to the Bills because Buffalo traded back in a deal with Mahomes’ team so the Chiefs could draft him in 2017.
Upon moving back, the Bills moved 17 places to the No. 27 spot where the club selected White. In addition, the Bills landed a second first-round pick at the 2018 NFL draft in that deal, which ended up being another Tre in linebacker Tremaine Edmunds.
But it was White who saw a lot of the comments on social media on Sunday after Mahomes’ win. Many members of Bills Mafia debated that topic, essentially asking, Mahomes or White? White saw it, calling it “ungratefulness.”
Here’s White’s full message:
I see a lot of ungratefulness 🤔… okay bet , I know what I have to do !!

While it’s going to be a tough pill to swallow for the Bills fans to see Mahomes play for the Super Bowl in just under two weeks, it’s a more than fair response from White.
In the offensive-minded game the NFL has developed into in its recent memory, quarterbacks are much more important asset than a cornerback. Mahomes is vying for his first title, but he already has the 2018 MVP Award in his trophy case, too.
But seeing as the Bills’ front office was in-flux at the time of the 2017 draft, Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott made the call on drafting White. The former defensive back himself clearly saw something in White, as many believed he was snubbed in the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award voting in 2017, along with White being snubbed in Pro Bowl voting in years past. In 2019, White finally earned his well-deserved acknowledgement, being named to his first Pro Bowl and All-Pro team.
McDermott even acknowledged in September that his evaluation of quarterbacks in 2017 was “shorter” because he was still putting together his front office. Doug Whaley was then employed as the general manager, even. Brandon Beane was later hired when Whaley was fired after the 2017 draft.
But while saying Bills fans have to look at the big picture, hopefully White will as well. While fans ask the “what if” question on Mahomes looking back, you’d be hard-pressed to find a Bills fans who doesn’t love what White brings to the team.
