Most rookies in the NBA are concerned with finding their footing and trying to carve out a role for themselves. But when you’re the most hyped-up rookie since LeBron James, those problems are replaced with other ones. That’s the case with San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama, as he’s been nothing short of incredible this season.
The problems he faces are media criticism from his very first step on the court and the constant pressure of the weight of an organization being on his back. However, he’s met those problems with greatness, especially when a player on the opposing team decides to turn things up a notch.
When Jalen Brunson dropped 61 points for the New York Knicks on Friday night, Wembanyama matched it with a 40-20 game. He’s used to matching greatness with greatness. (H/t Mike Finger of the San Antonio Express-News)
“It’s become very normal of him,” Tre Jones said. “When everybody (else) is having their big games, he’s going to be doing his thing, always.”
Wembanyama is already one of the best players in the league, and he’s not going to slow down anytime soon.
