Not the news that Texas was hoping for, as one of their priority transfer portal targets received a crystal ball in favor of Michigan State.
The Longhorns are looking to bring in a slew of new faces for next season, whether that be from the high school ranks or via the transfer portal.
One of their priority targets, UNLV linebacker Jacoby Windmon, was high on their list. He is the No. 15 ranked transfer in the portal according to 247Sports, and had a huge season this past year.
Windmon finished the 2021 season with 118 total tackles, 6.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. As of Tuesday, Michigan State emerged as the favorite to land him.
While this may be a tad disappointing for Texas, it also makes sense, as Texas’ linebacker room has started to get a little more crowded with the return of DeMarvion Overshown, and the commitment of four-star Kobie McKinzie.
It is still likely that Texas tries to bring in linebackers and other defensive players from the portal, but as of now it does not seem that Windmon will be one of them.
