The end of the 2022-23 season begins the start of a new season for Wisconsin basketball. It’s transfer portal time.
Wisconsin and Greg Gard have added a few players over the last couple of years by way of the portal and need to be extra aggressive in the summer of 2023.
The Badgers have glaring needs on the front line, could use overall depth, and need to find perimeter shooting this summer. The issues this season boiled down to roster construction, as Wisconsin didn’t have enough consistent options on the offensive end.
Gard has been vocal about needing to use the portal this offseason to get Wisconsin back to the NCAA Tournament in 2023-24.
“The teams that are still playing, that are winning are getting penalized for winning. But you have to do both,” Gard said last Friday when asked about his activity in the portal. “I mean, I’m in Minneapolis last night watching our guys that are in the state tournament, and we’re active in the portal. We’ve got a visit going on right now as we’re preparing to play, and you’re navigating all that.”
