The Arizona Cardinals do not have a pick in the third or fourth rounds of the 2021 NFL draft next week. They used those selections in trades to acquire receiver DeAndre Hopkins and center Rodney Hudson.
They have only six picks in seven rounds, including three in the final two. They have none from pick No. 49 to pick No. 160.
And while a couple of recent mock drafts project the Cardinals trading up in the first round, it appears to be more likely that they trade back.
Cardinals general manager Steve Keim is always intrigued with the idea of acquiring more picks. He told reporters Thursday trading back would be “very enticing.”
“If you had to weigh it out, with six picks and where we’re sitting I think it would be more likely to trade back than to trade up,” he said. “Then as far as trading back and accumulating more picks, it’s no different than a lottery ticket. The more you have the better you have a chance to hit. We know it’s an inexact business and to be able to accumulate more picks would be a real coup for us.”
So the Cardinals might make a selection with the 16th pick. They might also move back. and make us wait a little longer, but that would mean getting more picks later.
