The two primary football programs in the state, Texas and Texas A&M, are putting an emphasis on trying to keep the top in-state talent from leaving the state.
Each program has made significant strides recently, as the Aggies signed the top class in the country for the 2022 cycle and the Longhorns weren’t far behind at No. 5.
Both schools are in the mix for several of the top targets in the 2023 recruiting class as well. The Top247 rankings for recruits have changed a bit over the last few months, but the top player in the state of Texas hasn’t. Five-star defensive lineman David Hicks is still considered the highest rated player in the state, and Texas A&M is the favorite to land him.
Aside from Denton Guyer quarterback Jackson Arnold, who is committed to Oklahoma, the rest of the top prospects in the state of Texas are uncommitted at this time.
