Former Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson is set to potentially become the highest-drafted alumnus in the modern era of the National Football League’s amateur draft at the end of April after a mercurial career with the Orange and Blue.
The Gainesville native spent three years on campus, redshirting his freshman season — seeing action in the Cotton Bowl against the Oklahoma Sooners — before claiming the backup role in 2021 and finally ascending to the starting spot in 2022. While the results on the field varied significantly over his 22 games played at the collegiate level his raw talent is simply unquestioned, especially after a historic showing at the NFL combine last month.
Richardson finished his career in the Swamp completing 215 of 393 pass attempts (54.7%) good enough for 24 touchdowns against 15 interceptions and a passer rating of 133.6. On the ground, the dual-threat play-caller ran 161 times for 1,116 yards for a 6.9-yard average resulting in 12 touchdowns.
