Tony Vitello discusses Blake Burke’s home run against Alabama State in the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional.

No. 1 Tennessee (54-7) defeated Alabama State, 10-0, Friday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional.

Freshman Blake Burke started for Tennessee as the Vols’ designated hitter.

Burke went 1-for-3 against Alabama State, recording one home run, one RBI, two runs and one walk.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound freshman has recorded 13 home runs in 84 at-bats this season.

“It was kind of like a freak show,” Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello said of Burke following the Vols’ win. “It’s just nice that he’s kind of settled into just playing, because at first you just see a freshman so geared up.

“It needed to come from me, the other coaches were saying he needs to be in the lineup.”
