Emoni Bates is the best basketball prospect since Kevin Durant and only one college coach called him at midnight on June 15 when coaches were permitted to begin calling class of 2022 prospects.
That is according to Forbes’ Adam Zagoria, who heard directly from Bates’ dad.

If he goes to college, have to think MSU is the spot.

Bates’ abilities are so highly thought of that many college coaches simply aren’t investing the time in him despite the thought that he would immediately be the best college player upon his arrival. That is because the prevailing theory is that as soon as he is allowed to, Bates will be turning pro and with the “one-and-done” rule on the NBA chopping block, it seems unlikely Bates will ever wear a college uniform.
That isn’t stopping Izzo from recruiting him however, and Bates has been spotted a number of times working out at MSU. That is because Bates has the potential to reclassify and spend a year in college instead of what would be his senior year in high school. If that happens it looks like MSU could be in line to have him play for one season in East Lansing.
