A prominent Michigan State University donor and well-known member of the Republican Party, Peter Secchia, passed away on Wednesday after a battle with COVID-19. He was 83 years old.
“My family joins me in sharing the difficult news that Peter F. Secchia, our beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away this morning at the age of 83,” said his wife Joan Secchia in a statement. “Throughout his life, Peter was firmly committed to his family, his business, his community and his country. His presence in all will be deeply missed.”

MSU Men’s Basketball head coach Tom Izzo was close to Peter Secchia and considered him a friend and a mentor, and Izzo released a statement on Wednesday night to honor his memory.
He was someone I turned to over the years when I was making important life decisions, both personal and professional.
