Tom Brady reportedly apologizes to Tyrann Mathieu after on-field spat during Super Bowl LV

One of the biggest moments of Super Bowl LV occurred just before halftime when Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady had words.

One of the biggest moments of Super Bowl LV occurred just before halftime when Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady got into a heated altercation with Kansas City safety Tyrann Mathieu.

Mathieu was upset over multiple defensive penalties called against his secondary, with just one under one minute remaining before halftime that led to another Tampa Bay touchdown.

Mathieu was called for defensive pass interference in the end zone when Brady targeted wide receiver Mike Evans. On the next play, Brady found Antonio Brown to give the Bucs a 21-6 lead going into halftime.

Mathieu and Brady got into a verbal altercation on the field after the touchdown that resulted in Mathieu receiving a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. The two stars had to be pulled apart.

While it wasn’t certain what Brady said to Mathieu, the former LSU star said the following in a now-deleted tweet after the game.

“He called me something I won’t repeat, but yeah, I’ll let all the media throw me under the bus as if I did something or said something to him,” Mathieu said.

It appeared Brady told Mathieu he was coming for him the rest of the game.

After Brady’s Buccaneers defeated Mathieu’s Chiefs, the legendary quarterback reportedly texted a lengthy apology to Mathieu, per Jenna Laine of ESPN.

According to Laine, Brady apologized for losing his cool during the game and praised Mathieu as an “incredible leader, champion, and class act.”

He also expressed his desire to apologize to Mathieu personally sometime in the future.

The verbal sparring match between Brady and Mathieu ended up being one of the more exciting elements of Super Bowl LV.
